"What does that sign say," asked a 50 ish, 5 feet, 8 inch heavy set man with black curly hair, dressed in black workout clothing and a black baseball cap as he walked up and saw the vigil about to start. "Oh My God," he said, after reading the sign. "You are a Good Samaritan. May God Bless You!"
This is how last night's vigil began, a vigil filled with horn honks, waves and thumbs up, as people expressed their support.
But the vigil did have its lighter moments. A tall, trim 25 ish man walking an 18 inch high, brown and white chubby Beagle stopped to talk. In answer to a question, he replied, "He's a foster dog named Buddy."
Gentle eight year Buddy looked at us lovingly, with a sparkle in his soft dark eyes, as he waited for someone to pet him. "He stays at a Petco during the day," the young man said. "And we keep him at night, while they look for a home for him."
When he finished speaking, the young man slowly walked Buddy away, as the little dog waddled his tail and churned his tiny legs forward.
"Hello Mr. Kazan," called out a 30 ish woman from her gray SUV. "I know Clayton (my son) and Maria (my daughter-in-law)." In a car seat in the back of the vehicle was a 3 ish adorable little girl who smiled and waved.
"I've seen you out here before," she continued. "It is so nice of you to give your time like this."
"That is very nice that you do this," said a husky, 6 feet tall, 50 ish man wearing a stylish purple dress shirt and a pink tie, as he walked up. "I've seen you many times before."
Bleat--t, bleat--t, bleat--t, blared the horn of a small white sedan as it pulled up. "The War in Afghanistan and Pakistan is all about (drugs)," said a gray haired, 60 ish man, sitting in the front seat. "That's why we're there. And oil (in Iraq). Bush got us in there," he added angrily.
"I see you every Wednesday night," said the 30ish blond haired female driver with a big smile. I always honk."
"God Bless You Man," said 6 feet tall, trim 45 ish man with black graying hair, as he walked up and read the sign.
At 7 pm, a 30 ish woman with brown shoulder length hair, wearing a black baseball cap and driving a black SUV, held up her hand in a two finger peace sign, as she stopped at the signal. And with a soft smile, she held her hand up for 20-30 seconds wanting to make her point, a strong desire for peace.
From her kind heart, it was a nice way to bring a meaningful vigil to a close.
