Update, 7/22/10

Yesterday in Baquba north of Baghdad, a car bomb exploded, destroying a neighborhood and taking the lives of 30 men, women and children and severely injuring 46 more people. Nearby, a U.S. soldier was also blown up by a homemade bomb. These bombings were the 3rd and 4th this week in the area.

While in Afghanistan U.S. military officials said they would be escalating the war. They claimed their strategy was solid but that the war has been going badly due to flawed implementation under prior leadership.

Both wars are horrific tragedies growing worse. President Obama could end them but instead has chosen to continue one and escalate the other. We will hope that greater wisdom and compassion will soon prevail and that cease fires will be declared and peace agreements negotiated and we will raise our voices accordingly.

Otherwise, the U.S. military occupations will continue under puppet governments, blood will continue to be spilled and what is left of the U.S. treasure will be gone.

P.S. (8/5/10), Dear Reader, the reason no vigil was held on 7/21/10 is that I had shoulder surgery the prior Friday, 7/16. The vigil commenced again the next Wednesday.
