Dear Reader, John Fortier is a Korean War veteran who each Friday evening sits at a busy Pacific Coast Highway intersection in Redondo Beach (Los Angeles area), and holds a sign that reads "War Is Not The Answer" and he flies a peace flag. He receives horn honks, waves and shout outs from drivers and he also speaks with pedestrians.
The vigil itself was nice, maybe a little lighter than average, but that impression might have resulted from a visitor who stayed on and on and on for about an hour.
He throws a big shadow, weighing around 325- 350, and seriously blocked my view. He is a sad guy, maybe 40- ish, on disability, no goals, no ambition. He is nice but tragic.
Grant came by about 5:45 and patiently sat by while 'the shadow' held, forth until I finally felt obliged to tell him I had to talk with Grant, and he drifted away.
I was disappointed to see how dark it got by 6:15, knowing how dark it would be this Friday when clocks said 6:15. Bummer.
See you Wednesday.
