Who Is The Enemy Who Causes Our Wars?

As the wars in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere take the lives of men, women and children by the thousands, those of us who care share in the agony of every family losing their loved ones.

For each person is as you and I, spiritual beings seeking and sharing love and hoping to live in peace and prosperity.

So what sets off these wars?

Poverty, hopelessness, frustration and the false notion that the killing of others will bring peace to the soul. To justify this horror, we gift wrap it in religion or in claims of freedom and imply that the "enemy" is less human than we are.

If only we kill him, everything will be solved, as we murder our way to peace and prosperity. As a result, this sick cycle continues.

We as mankind never accept our own role. We are only too happy to share the news of beheadings to show what perverted animals we are dealing with and to spread fear.

We Americans don't discuss our invasions, bombings, secret prisons, torture, occupation and the hundreds of thousands of people who lost their lives as a direct or indirect result.

We don't discuss all the children orphaned by our actions, nor the millions of people our actions caused to flee their homes, as they sought sanctuary in other nations.

It is only the other guy who commits evil, and there is no cause and effect that comes from our actions and those of our allies.

Meanwhile we spend trillions of dollars on war but we expect peace to come without cost. But if the world is to secure peace, it will require investment.

We will invest in our fellow man, our fellow woman and their children, creating education and opportunity where only poverty and hopelessness exists today.

In addition we will learn to act with compassion, love and forgiveness realizing that the only enemy that has ever existed is the demon within ourselves.
